Abstract: Access to land and women's participation in small-scale farming at uMlalazi local municipality

It is essential to assess the nature of women's involvement in agricultural projects because the Land Reform Policy is aiming at creating an enabling environment for South African women to access, utilise and manage land, thus, creating gender equity and reduce women's vulnerability. Despite various policies and interventions that have been in place to ensure women's participation in agricultural projects and land ownership, there is still a dearth of research in understanding land ownership dynamics affecting women in rural areas. Both primary and secondary data was used to conduct an analysis of the manner in which women are effectively benefiting from the existing land reform programmes. The researchers collected data from five agricultural projects within uMlalazi Local Municipality in rural areas in KwaZulu-Natal province. The sample size for this study was ten (10) participants per project where participants were pu
