Abstract: Government support programmes by immigrant entrepreneurs in the Johannesburg central business district

Immigrant entrepreneurs contribute to local economic development and poverty reduction through the creation of employment. However, immigrant businesses have a high failure rate. Government support programmes can enhance the performance of immigrant-owned businesses. The study investigated the level of awareness and use of government support programmes by immigrant entrepreneurs in the Johannesburg Central Business District. It utilised a quantitative research approach with a descriptive research design. The survey method was used for the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from one hundred and twenty participants. The convenience and snowball sampling methods were used to identify the study participants. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. The results indicated that immigrant entrepreneurs lack awareness and do not use government support programmes.
