Abstract: A proposed socially inclusive management framework for sustainable social assistance in South Africa

In a developmental state such as South Africa, poverty reduction and eradication are focal areas of the government. Various state-funded social grants have been at the centre of the government policy to cushion the poor from the ravaging effects of poverty. Observably, social grants have been instrumental in reducing poverty in South Africa. Nonetheless, the war waged on poverty has not been smooth since there are some desperately poor citizens who continue to slip through the social protection safety net. Such a reality exacerbates poverty since the exclusion of the poor is indicative of failing efforts to eradicate or alleviate poverty. Social exclusion has had a plethora of causes. Cardinal to tracing causes of social exclusion is failure of existing practices used in managing grants to bring social inclusion.
