Abstract: An analysis of a local economic development strategy in the arts and culture sector of the expanded public works programme within South Africa

The Arts and Cultural Sector of the South African economy is one of South Africa's greatest treasures and an important component of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). It is through the EPWP that significant capital is invested in work opportunities within the Arts and Cultural Sector of the South African economy. Many well-recognised international artists originate from South Africa, which gives the country a leading advantage in tourism, trade and various other opportunities. The Arts and Cultural Sector of the economy plays an important role in Local Economic Development (LED) by bridging the gender divide and providing work opportunities within a country that is rich in culture and heritage, and bears with it some of the world's most innovative people.
