There is international acknowledgement that efforts to reduce disaster risks must be systematically integrated into policies, plans and programmes of various departments and ministries in each country. The Covid-19 global pandemic has demonstrated the importance of multi-sectoral coordination in managing disaster risks. This article addresses the integration of disaster risk reduction in the planning processes and initiatives of various departments or ministries in South Africa. The main objective of the study was to develop a model for integrating disaster risk reduction in national multi-sectoral planning in South Africa. To achieve this objective, both theoretical dimensions through the study of literature and empirical dimensions through qualitative research design with a total of 28 participants from key national departments and agencies were employed.
