Borrowing from the Nazi Joseph Goebbels's thinking, Tom Stafford (2016) reminds us that the laws of propaganda includes "Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth". This law captures the essence of what psychologists call "the illusion of truth" and it is as relevant today as it was during the Nazi holocaust (1941-1945). This tendency to manufacture, spread and repeat lies is not limited to political circles. In fact, it can be observed in inter-group relations about the quality of scholarship in the higher education system (Shai, 2021). Inasmuch as this is a global challenge, it is safe to say that in Africa and South Africa, in particular, it is glaring.
