Abstract: Water Service Provision in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality in South Africa

The South African local government is constitutionally mandated to deliver and prioritise the provision of basic, reliable, quality services to households. Currently, all South African municipalities are in serious distress pertaining to effective provision of services. The inability of local municipalities to deliver services is found to be a constitutional breach, which makes local communities express their dissatisfaction regarding delivery. Often, local communities demonstrate their dissatisfaction and discomfort by means of protests that are characterised by vandalism, civil unrest and violence. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate water service provision in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality with specific reference to Mogoto village.
