Abstract: An Investigation of Rewards and Benefits Preferences on the Retention of Talent in a Public: Sector Organisation in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa

The production of quality goods and services depends on the skills and expertise of employees of that organisation. Employees are the backbone of any organisation. They are an asset and need to be valued especially if the organisation intends to survive and have a competitive edge. To acquire and retain skilled human resources is not easy and needs concerted effort on the part of all human resource stakeholders in organisations. Organisations need to make themselves attractive to prospective employees, as well as to those employees they already have to avoid having them resign. To make matters worse, competition for skilled, talented employees is tough, especially in a country like South Africa, which has a shortage of qualified and experienced human resources.
