Abstract: Perceived Organisational Support, Employee Involvement and Job Engagement at a Selected Government Institution

Without a highly motivated and engaged workforce, an organisation will not realise its goals as staff mobility will be high. Public institutions are finding it difficult to retain their highly competent employees as these are moving to private institutions. The increased turnover rate at most government institutions has led to a great decrease in the number of competent staff, thus a short-age in vital areas, to the extent that some departments are losing their feasibility. The study explores the relationship among the following variables in a selected government department; perceived organisational support; employee involvement; job engagement. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data, with 120 usable questionnaires being returned. The results show that there is a significant positive correlation between perceived organisational support and employee involvement. It is recommended that management professionals endeavour to
