Abstract: The Role of Politico-Administrative Interface in the Delivery of Basic Services in a South African Municipality

This paper seeks to establish the role of politico-administrative collaboration in the delivery of basic services in a South African local municipality. South Africa constitutes an intergovernmental system that accommodates the collaboration of political and administrative offices. The attainment of democracy, in 1994, has seen South African municipalities publicly promising to achieve the delivery of quality services to local communities through collaboration between elected political leaders and administrative officials. The study was empirical, and qualitative research methodology was employed. The population of the study was the total number of councillors and managers at the Bela-Bela Local Municipality and a sample of six councillors and three senior managers was selected.
