Abstract: Assessing the Impact of Digitalisation on SME Policy: A Comparative Analysis of Approaches to Support the Manufacturing Sector in the Digital Age – South Africa

The rise of digitalisation has become a pivotal driver of economic growth and increased competitiveness, particularly impacting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector. This study aims to assess the influence of digitalisation on SME policy and explore strategies to fortify the manufacturing industry during the era of digital transformation, with a focus on the South African context. Examining the challenges and opportunities arising from digitalisation for SMEs, the research identifies key areas requiring governmental interventions to support digital transformation and enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector. Using a qualitative research method, the study interviewed participants from the South African manufacturing sector, comprising a sample of nine individuals, with five males and four females.
