Abstract: Addressing scarce and critical skills in Limpopo local government : the LGSETA option

The most pressing problem facing Limpopo Province today is the absence of sustained economic growth and job creation, which are essential to reduce poverty and improve living conditions. The sector skills plans (SSPs) within the framework of the National Skills Development Strategy serve as guidelines to address the development of skills and capabilities to support economic growth. The article focuses on the skills gaps and skills supply based in the standard industrial classification codes allocated to each individual Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) by the minister in the SETA establishment and re-certification process. The role of Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) in reducing scarce skills in the Limpopo local government is discussed.
